The Vice-Chancellor, Derek McCormack, heads the University. He has overall responsibility for ensuring that academic standards are maintained, that the University is well managed, that the various needs of the University's stakeholders (students, staff, Ministry of Education, Maori, employers and local communities) are met, and for setting out the strategic direction for the University.
