AUT Sport and Recreation Clubs
The AUT Sport and Recreation Clubs offer students the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of sports. If you are new to Auckland or looking to join a new sport, or just want to represent AUT the AUT Sport and Recreation Clubs can help you.
Whether you are interested in Volleyball, Rugby, Netball, or Basketball or a whole host of other sports, the AUT Sport and Recreation Clubs page is your place to go. We are here to provide for both Wellesley and Akoranga campus students.
Essentially we have a mandate to accommodate the sporting needs of AUT students. The club can introduce you to people interested in similar sports, assist you in getting into various sports teams, assist your team in recruiting other players and coaches, all the time enhancing your experience at AUT

AUT Competitive Sports Teams
Basketball We will have a strong basketball programe in place with coaching staff from the Auckland Stars and other quality teams. We are currently leading the premier grade in the North Harbour competition and look forward to a great development year in 2008.
If you are interested in playing basketball in any grade for a structured team then email the Sport Development Manager Bruce Meyer your details and he will hook you up or call 9219736.
AUT currently have a mens CBL program with a team playing in the national 2nd division.

Netball We had a realtive successful year with 3 teams competing on the north shore. in 2008 we will be running a high performace program with a senior representive team selected for the North Harbour competition, as well as a team selected for University Games. You do not have to play for AUT on a regular basis to qualify for the university games team.
Volleyball We have a mixed and elite men’s Volleyball competition starting a the AUT Sport and Fitness Centre, Fun, great way to improve fitness and health, Catering for all levels - newcomers to experienced - , email Bruce Meyer for more details.
Trial Dates for University games will also be announced soon - and all students regardless of current club are eligable to represent AUT at the University Games in Wellington

Northcote Birkenhead Rugby Union and Sports Club
Northcote is the University's North Harbour rugby club and provides opportunities for AUT students and staff to play competitive and social rugby. The club is situated in Recreation Drive, Birkenhead and has some of the best club rugby facilities in New Zealand with two superb playing fields, extensive changing rooms and three bars which serve its many player and non playing members.

Ponsonby District Rugby Football Club Inc Ponsonby is the University's Auckland rugby club. Ponsonby has a long and illustrious history boasting many All Blacks and Auckland rugby players. AUT Sports Clubs on Campus
Rowing In 2007 the AUT rowing club was formed and there aim is to develop a new competiive rowing club enter local and national events. They will be catering for all abilities and will be sending crews from novice to senior to this years University Games.-
Trial Dates for University games will also be announced soon - and all students regardless of current club are eligable to represent AUT at the University Games in Wellington

Powerlifting We are wishing to start a powerlifting / weightlifting club here at AUT. At AUT we currently have NZ's only paralympic powerlifter, as well as the NZ Male Junior 100kg champ and the Open men 90kg class third place getter. As powerlifting and weightlifting have male and female categories, different body weight classes and age groups, these sports allow people of all sizes and ages to compete. If you are interested in learning correct technique and getting a lot stronger, feel free to give Justin Keogh a call on 921 9999 x7617
Combined Martial Arts
This club runs weekly trainings and teaches various martial art techniques including self defence. CMA also focuses on helping students with increasing their confidence and achieving a higher level of fitness and flexibility. Beginners and people of all fitness levels are welcome.

Waka Ama The AUT Waka Ama (outrigger canoes) club has been formed to provide students with a fun recreational sport that encourages team work and the chance to get outdoors and on the water. Hoe Tonu Outrigger Canoe Club AUT branch has the use of 6 seater Wakas and welcome new members with all levels of fitness and ability.
Currently training is at 2 pm Sundays at Avondale West Reserve, end of Avondale Rd, Avondale although extra trainings will be scheduled with the increase in student interest. Just turn up with your student ID. All welcome! Contact Anne.Culhane@aut.ac.nz for more information.
