Public Health Postgraduate Programme

AUT University has introduced an innovative postgraduate public health programme with a community health development perspective.

The new postgraduate public health programme (Master of Public Health, Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health and Postgraduate Certificate in Public Health) was developed following demand from the public health workforce for postgraduate opportunities based on community health development principles. It will strengthen practice and research expertise in the health promotion and community health development sectors.

This emphasises the role of social, economic, cultural, educational, environmental and other societal factors in the production and maintenance of individual and community well being. The programme is underpinned with a commitment to principles of equity, social justice, empowerment and community participation and ownership.

The programme will equip students with the conceptual and research knowledge for understanding community health priorities, developing and implementing community health interventions and critically evaluating their effects across a range of community health settings.

The programme is suitable for people in the workforce who want to further their professional education, or wishing to move into this area.
