University Postgraduate Centre
The University Postgraduate Centre team provides administrative support for the University Postgraduate Board as well as liaising with faculty postgraduate offices. The University Postgraduate Centre has overall responsibility for maintaining the central University record of each student’s path through a master’s or doctoral qualification and also is responsible for the administration of the thesis examination process. In 2009 the University will be expanding the Postgraduate Centre to provide more facilities for postgraduate students which provide a central space which will include lounge facilities, a PC lab and seminar rooms.
The Centre keeps students informed of seminars, forums, events and other activities, both social and academic via the Postgraduate and Doctoral network. The Centre also coordinates a semester based seminar series for all postgraduate students. The series involves a wide range of seminars and several social gatherings throughout the year, providing opportunities to develop research skills as well as avenues to network with staff and students from all areas in the University community.
Director of Postgraduate Studies
In her role as Director of Postgraduate Studies, Madeline Banda is responsible for overseeing development of postgraduate studies in the University. She is a representative on a number of University committees, including Academic Board, Research Committee, University Postgraduate Board and Scholarships Committee and is the Executive Secretary of the AUT Ethics Committee.
Madeline is available to staff and students for advice on, or to discuss any issues or concerns related to, postgraduate study at AUT.
Postgraduate Handbook
The Postgraduate Handbook is published by the Centre. This publication outlines the policies and procedures applicable to your study. Handbooks can be obtained from your faculty, the University Postgraduate Centre or downloaded from the Forms and Handbook section along with Postgraduate and Doctoral forms.
Postgraduate Seminar Series Programme
The Centre keeps our students informed of seminars, forums, events and other activities, both socially and academically via the Postgraduate Network. The series also involves a range of seminars and social gatherings throughout the year.
Topics covered in the seminar series include:
-
Academic workshops
-
Computer-based workshops
-
Social events
The seminars are provided as a support to you. There is no charge to attend if you are an enrolled AUT postgraduate student. Some of the seminars are more suited to specific aspects of research activity such as master’s or doctoral theses, but anyone currently enrolled as an AUT postgraduate student is welcome to attend. The seminar programme is updated each semester
The series provides opportunities to develop research skills as well as avenues to network with staff and students from all areas in the University community. See conferences and events for more information.
