Doctoral Degrees

AUT offers two types of awards at doctoral level - PhD and named doctorates. Both of these require the student to complete a research project which makes an original contribution to knowledge within a field, at an internationally recognised standard.

A PhD programme is made up entirely of research. You enroll in a thesis, which may be focused on any topic, question or problem for which AUT can provide an expert supervisor. For more information of potential supervisors and topics, contact the appropriate faculty postgraduate office.

Named (or professional) Doctorates

Named doctorates are designed to enable students to focus their research on advancing knowledge in areas of professional practice. The programme includes some taught papers and a thesis which makes up at least two thirds of the qualification.
