BRCSS Research Project

It has been an honour for the Office of Pasifika Advancement to lead and coordinate this long awaited project of compiling a bibliographic index of Master and Doctoral Pacific research in New Zealand universities. This project dates back to the early 1900s. It will benefit students and researchers conducting their own research on the Pacific and provide a key to those who are about to start their own journey. It will be key to promoting and advancing further scholarship and understanding of the Pacific region, its people, societies and cultures; histories; arts; politics’ environment and resources; developments and the future.

I would like to thank Professor Richard Bedford and the BRCSS Committee for supporting and funding this initiative.  A special acknowledgement goes to Professor Marilyn Waring (AUT), who through her own work identified that this project would be a valuable resource. We share her view and wish to also acknowledge her invaluable support and for providing feedback on the project. Thanks also to Professor Tania Ka’ai (AUT) for her encouraging words and that this indeed, was going to be such an invaluable resource to researchers in universities.

There are also a number of other people that must be acknowledged for their support, encouragement and assistance. In particular I give thanks to the university librarians and their contribution to this project. Special thanks to Robyn Ramage (AUT Library) and I’u Tuagalu (Pasifika Student Support Services, AUT) who provided us with direction early in the project; and to Judy McFall McCaffery (UoA Library) and Philip Combs (AUT Library) whose ongoing input and feedback in the process has been invaluable.

Heartfelt thanks to the OPA team, Kate Scott and Prue Innes for their contributions.

And finally to Pollyanna. Thank you Pollyanna for taking hold of this project and the professional management you applied to the work and all those you worked with.  This resource is a valuable taonga that will benefit so many in the years to come.
