Borrowing & Renewing
Take items which you would like to borrow to the Lending Desk along with your ID Card
To see which books you have on loan, when they are due or how to renew go to the library homepage, http://www.aut.ac.nz/library. Choose Catalogue>Login to view your personal record.
Course Reserve
Course Reserve is a collection of recommended course readings which are in high demand. You can search for these items on the Catalogue using 'Course Reserve' and search by Paper, Number, Lecturer or Department. Items are available for two-hour loan within the Library.
e-Reserve
e-Reserve is a collection of course-related supplementary readings, excerpts from books and journals, and lecture notes in digital format. Access to e-Reserve documents is via the Voyager Catalogue (and is restricted to AUT staff and students).
Fines
Please return or renew material on time. Failure to do so will result in fines being charged.
The fee is 25 cents per day, per item.
The fine for an overdue recalled item is $3.00 per day.
Overdue Course Reserve items are fined at 5 cents per minute
Inter Campus Requests
You may borrow books from either campus. If a book is available on the other campus it will be sent over to you without charge when you place an Inter Campus Request stating which campus you would like to pick it up from.
Library Notices
Library notices about fines, overdues and recalls are sent to your AUT email address. You need to check this address (username@aut.ac.nz) regularly. You can forward your AUT email to another account, if you prefer.
Setting up email forwarding:
- Log into you AUT internet account, click on "Change Settings" button
- Enter your new email address in the "Forward my email to" box
- Click on "Change my delivery method". Click OK
We do not recommend that you forward your AUT email to restricted free email accounts such as Hotmail and Yahoo.
Loan periods
There is a minimum loan period of 14 days for main collection books that have not been renewed. Once a book has been renewed it is subject to immediate recall.
A notice is sent to your AUT email address advising you of a recall.
Membership
Library resources are available to all students and staff. Bring your current student ID card or staff card to the Lending Services Desk. The ID card includes your Library barcode/borrower number. AUT staff ID cards can be obtained from the Academic Registry by arrangement with your Head of Department or Faculty Manager.
Recalls
If an item is on loan you may recall it by placing a request on the Voyager Catalogue, or you may ask a staff member at the Lending Desk.
Reciprocal borrowing by students from other New Zealand Universities
What is ULANZ?
University Library Aotearoa New Zealand (ULANZ) is a national reciprocal borrowing scheme for New Zealand’s university libraries.
ULANZ enables borrowing in person by registered staff and students of ULANZ member universities from any other ULANZ member university's library.
Who is eligible?
All currently employed staff and currently enrolled students of ULANZ member universities are eligible to borrow in person from any other member university's library.
The following universities are members of ULANZ:
- Auckland University of Technology
- Lincoln University
- Massey University
- University of Canterbury
- University of Otago
- University of Waikato
- Victoria University of Wellington
Registration
Students and staff of ULANZ member universities wishing to register as reciprocal borrowers at AUT Library must complete a ULANZ registration form and provide photographic proof of identity. In addition, students must provide proof of current enrolment at a ULANZ member university before registration can be confirmed. Similarly staff must provide proof of current employment or affiliation to a ULANZ member university.
ULANZ registration is available between 9.00am and 9.00pm, Monday to Friday and 10.00am-5.00pm on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays at the City Campus or North Shore Campus Library lending service desks.
Your home institution library card or student identity card will also serve as your ULANZ borrower card at AUT Library. ULANZ borrower cards expire on the 28 February of the year following registration, or when a borrower ceases to be a current student or staff member at their ULANZ member university.
There is no fee associated with ULANZ registration.
Borrowing privileges
Reciprocal borrowers can borrow up to 20 books from the main collection. The loan period is for 14 days. If renewed, items are subject to instant recall if required by AUT staff and students. Fines for the late return of recalled items are $3.00 per day.
Restrictions:
- No access to Course Reserve material.
- Material on loan may not be recalled.
- Audio-visual material may be used in the Library only.
- Print journals may be used in the Library only.
- Licensed electronic resources are not available to ULANZ members.
Interloans
Interlibrary loan, document delivery and distance services are the responsibility of your home library
Photocopying
Coin copiers are available in the High Demand collection.
Renewing Library Material
Books may be renewed five times provided they have not been requested by another borrower. This may be done in person, or by telephone (921-9665) if the item is not required by another borrower.
Returning Library Material
Library material must be returned to the Lending Services Desks. When the Library is closed please return items through the After Hours Book Return slots. At the City Campus this is located on Level 4 of the Learning Centre, (accessible from Hikuwai Plaza). The After Hours Return facility for the North Shore Campus is on the back of AB Building.
Study Rooms
Group study rooms are available at City Campus and North Shore Campus Libraries. They can be booked for two hours at a time through the open access computer lab booking system. You need your network login and password to do this.
